The Role:

 

*This position is for 1st shift or 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM*

 

The Production Team Leader is responsible for managing daily manufacturing operations and leading a team of approximately 30 employees. This role oversees the transformation of raw materials into finished goods through key production processes including blending, tableting, encapsulating, coating, and packaging.

 

In addition to coordinating production schedules and directing workflow across workstations, the Team Leader plays a critical role in fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. This includes mentoring team members, promoting professional development, and ensuring compliance with all safety protocols and regulatory requirements.

 

The Team Leader is also responsible for reviewing manufacturing shop orders for accuracy and completeness, maintaining operational efficiency, and driving consistent product quality while upholding a safe and collaborative work environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Be physically present on the production floor to support, coach, and inspire team members.
  • Open manufacturing buildings 30 minutes prior to shift start and ensure coverage during all active shift hours.
  • Secure buildings using alarm system (if required)
  • Lead by example in safety, quality, and operational excellence.
  • Actively teach and coach employees on equipment operation, SOPs, and Lean practices.
  • Foster a positive, approachable, and respectful work environment.
  • Identify and remove roadblocks that hinder team performance or morale.
  • Collaborate with department leads to ensure production schedules are met.
  • Monitor shop order progress and verify accuracy before materials move between workstations.
  • Conduct daily check-ins with team members to understand needs and provide support.
  • Review and complete shift reports, logbooks, and documentation with accuracy.
  • Represent the team in safety committee meetings and advocate for employee well-being.
  • Continuously evaluate processes and recommend improvements with input from the team.
  • Partner with the Department Manager on short- and long-term planning.
  • Step in to operate equipment under critical conditions when needed.

Safety Leadership Responsibilities

  • Champion a safety-first culture by modeling safe behaviors and holding team members accountable to safety standards.
  • Ensure all employees are trained and consistently follow GMPs, SOPs, and site-specific safety protocols.
  • Conduct regular safety walkthroughs and proactively identify hazards or unsafe conditions.
  • Lead daily safety huddles and reinforce the importance of personal and team safety.
  • Investigate incidents and near-misses with empathy and focus on learning and prevention.
  • Collaborate with EHS and site leadership to implement corrective actions and continuous safety improvements.
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation and contribute to safety audits and compliance reviews.
  • Promote psychological safety by encouraging open communication and feedback without fear of retaliation.

What you'll need:

 

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma, College degree preferred
  • Vocational training in leadership, production, or manufacturing
  • 3–5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Deep understanding of manufacturing process flow and equipment
  • Familiarity with SOP creation and revision
  • Strong interpersonal and coaching skills
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience applying Lean methodologies and continuous improvement
  • Strong working knowledge of safety regulations, GMPs, and incident prevention strategies

Additional Requirements

  • GMP training and compliance required
  • Safety-sensitive position
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally and work in a manufacturing environment

Physical requirements/working conditions:

  • Sits at a computer station, meeting table or work desk for more than two-thirds of each day
  • Stands and walks to other stations and departments throughout the day
  • Uses hands and fingers to operate computers and office equipment most of the day
  • May stoop or crouch to access files or storage
  • Requires clear vision at 20 inches or less with or without corrective lenses
  • Hearing and speech within normal ranges and sufficient for clear communication face to face and especially via the telephone
  • Lifts up to 10 pounds regularly; lifts 25 pounds occasionally
  • Exposed to noise levels typical of office environments

Compensation:

 

The current annual base salary for this role based out of Gig Harbor, WA is $80,000/yr. to $100,000/yr.

 

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.  

 

This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
