    Position Overview:


    The Senior Medical Writer will be responsible for the development and completion of targeted scientific cornerstone content for the Metagenics educational website, The Metagenics Institute. The incumbent is also responsible for the development of scientific content in a variety of formats (blogs, slides, etc.) as requested by the Chief Medical Officer, and provide accurate interpretation of scientific data.


    The incumbent will also work closely with the digital marketing team to analyze data, usage tracking, conversion, optimization, experimentation, create automated processes, A/B testing on articles, blogs, science reviews, video scripts, podcasts, cornerstone content, etc.


    Background and experience in various therapeutic platforms such as: women’s health, cognitive health, nutrigenomics, are a plus.


    Note: This position will include a short writing audition. Only applicants that complete the audition will be considered.


    What you'll do: 

    • Identify and synthesize relevant studies on topics that have been identified by the CMO and team for the marketing funnel, including articles, video scripts, educational curricula, PowerPoint presentations, and books
    • Develop medical education materials, and summaries of background research for blog articles, podcasts, clinician training materials, protocols, slide decks, cornerstone content on various health conditions.       Much of the content will be ghost written
    • Conduct independent, timely literature review of clinical trials, peer-reviewed scientific articles, and other scientific sources to obtain accurate, relevant content for Metagenics Institute
    • Collaborate with CMO on high priority projects that require turning scientific information into engaging and cutting-edge educational content
    • Curate and translate videos/podcasts into different formats such as print materials, online training modules, etc.

    Experience / Training / Education

    • Ph.D. degree (Ph.D. candidate) in health journalism, nutritional science, integrative healthcare, epidemiology or related field with experience in medical communications and technical writing is highly desirable
    • Candidates with Master of Science (M.S.) degree in health journalism, nutritional sciences, integrative healthcare, epidemiology or related field, with experience doing literature research, technical medical writing will also be considered
    • At least 3 years scientific research and/or medical writing experience in integrative, medical education, and/or pharmaceutical industries
    • Experience composing scientific materials and knowledge of AMA writing guidelines
    • Experience working on a growth marketing team, and developing online educational materials, courses, and learning management preferred
    • Experience working with a designer, copywriter, and technical integrator to implement A/B testing
    • Experience in translating technical or scholarly information into accessible and persuasive language
    • Some experience in developing CME activities


    Knowledge of

    • Knowledge with clinical trials and reviewing clinical trial data
    • Analytical skills to synthesize complex scientific and technical data
    • Knowledge with epidemiology and research design
    • Current knowledge of the healthcare industry preferred
    • Ability to gather information to develop instructionally effective educational activities and other technical medical content



    • Ability to sift rapidly through the vast body of scientific literature to find the most relevant studies on assigned topics
    • Ability to work collaboratively and successfully across functions (R&D, commercial, regulatory, legal, etc.)
    • Ability to undertake situations with a proactive and “hands-on” approach
    • Ability to read and evaluate technical information
    • Ability to work independently, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, be proactive, and self-driven
    • Excellent verbal , written communication, and strong interpersonal skills
    • Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks/responsibilities and meet expected timelines
    • Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time on detailed materials


    Physical Requirements and working conditions:

    • Sits at a computer station, meeting table or work desk for more than two-thirds of each day
    • Stands and walks to other stations and departments throughout the day
    • Uses hands and fingers to operate computers and office equipment most of the day
    • May stoop or crouch to access files or storage
    • Requires clear vision at 20 inches or less with or without corrective lenses
    • Hearing and speech within normal ranges and sufficient for clear communication face to face and especially via the telephone
    • Lifts up to10 pounds regularly; lifts 25 pounds occasionally
    • Exposed to noise levels typical of office environments
